The Biotechnology Program is an initiative of the
Pacific Biosciences Research Center (PBRC). Established
in 1988 as a joint activity of PBRC and the Hawaii Institute of Tropical
Agriculture and Human Resources, the Biotechnology Program has
undertaken several large federally funded interdisciplinary projects in
biotechnology and molecular biology. It has also established a research
support core facility, the Biotechnology/Molecular Biology
Instrumentation and Training Facility or Biotech Core. The Core has
been recently renamed to the
Greenwood Molecular Biology
Facility (GMBF) in commemoration of Professor Frederick C.
Greenwood, its founder. GMBF provides services, products, consultation
and technical support in the area of biochemistry and molecular biology
to the research community in Hawaii. Since 1994, PBRC has been solely
responsible for the Biotechnology Program. For more information visit
