A grazing section through the dorsal surface showing cross sections of cilia in four of the sparsely ciliated kineties (arrowheads). A layer of mitochondria (m) underlies the pellicle. A replication band (rep b) of the DNA in the macronucleus is typical of hypotrichs. The basal bodies and cilia of one cirrus are found at the top. cv, contractile vacuole. EM taken on 8/1/67 by R.
